Montgomery County Police say this weekend’s sobriety checkpoint brought in startling numbers.
Friday night, officers located at i-370 and Fields Road stopped 674 vehicles, and arrested nine drivers for DUI.
Officers say typically a sobriety checkpoint will catch less than five drivers for being under the influence.
With Labor Day weekend coming up, police will increase patrolling officers to watch for unsafe driving.
“It’s the time of year where summer is coming to a close,” said Officer Rick Goodale, Montgomery County Police. “People are having barbecues and parties, and getting out more. And over the Labor Day weekend, we will have extra officers out doing saturation patrol throughout the county in coordination with Maryland State Police.”
There will be another sobriety checkpoint Thursday evening to encourage safe driving this holiday weekend.
