Marginal Risk of Severe Weather

LocalDVM - Good evening everyone! I hope you had a beautiful Saturday. We saw plenty of sunshine across the region. I hope you had the chance to get out and enjoy it because over the next 24 to 48 hours we will see a chance of showers and thunderstorms a few of which may turn severe.

The Storm Prediction Center increased our risk to marginal this afternoon. A marginal risk of severe means a few thunderstorms across the region may turn severe. We will keep you updated on-air, online, and on your smart device. Be sure to download the WDVM Wx app on your smartphone or tablet.

The main threat of this system looks to be wind and flooding. However, I cannot rule out the chance of hail or an isolated tornado. Winds will be gusty at times, and we could see an inch or two of rainfall. A few areas with heavy thundershowers could see upwards of up to 3 inches.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Garrett County from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. Flash floods could cause river and creek beds to rise to dangerous levels. Areas near water should be on the lookout for flash flooding. Turn around, don't drown. Stay away or be swept away.

Monday will bring more rain for the morning through midday. Then we will gradually clear out as we head into Monday night into Tuesday. This front will cool temperatures off back into the 50's and 60's after seeing record-breaking high temperatures over the past few days. Skies will be mostly to partly sunny Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday looks to bring another chance of rain, but it will not amount to much compared to what we will see over the next 24 to 48 hours.
