FLASH FLOOD WATCH

LocalDVM - Good evening everyone! We have a chance of strong storms heading in overnight tonight mainly in the form of soaking showers and gusty winds. A few showers and thunderstorms may turn severe, especially if we see warming during the overnight.

The National Weather Service in Sterling has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of the Potomac Highlands and the Shenandoah Valley. Heavy rains could cause flash flooding in rivers and streams. It may also lead to drainage issues as heavy showers and storms move in.

As we head into Monday, we will see a chance of rain through midday. The system will then exit the region, and we will be left with a few clouds as we head into Monday night. Tuesday we should start to gradually clear. Temperatures will be slightly chilly both Monday and especially Tuesday morning. Temperatures will go down somewhat below average this week to confiscate the warm weather we have had.

We will see a mix of sun and clouds through the week. Clouds may be more present on Thursday as a chance of rainfall is possible. However, Thursday's rain will be in no way of comparison to what we see in the next 12 to 24 hours. We will try to clear out as we head towards the weekend and attempt to warm up, but another system looks to keep our temperatures regulated as we head into next Sunday.

The latest long-term forecasts suggest that over the next couple of weeks or so we will see a below average trend. No need to worry, the seasonal outlook looks for warmer temperatures to come in the following weeks to follow.

Here is a look at your 7-day forecast:

Sunday night: Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. A few storms may turn severe with gusty winds. Lows will range from the 40's into the 60's as we head overnight.
