Shippensburg president hosts storytime for local children

The event was part of her Make Waves of Kindness Inauguration week

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg University President, Laurie Carter, hosted a story time for local children at the public library as part of her Make Waves of Kindness Week.

"The idea of reading picture books, which helps the student understand not just the story itself but also to visualize it, is important to me," said Carter.

The week's activities are leading up to her inauguration as the 17th president of the university.
"The idea of being in the community and interacting with members of the community is an important part of what I hope to achieve during my time," explained Carter.

The children cozied up to Carter in their pajamas to hear the story of Frederick and Good Night Moon.
At the end of the night, every child got the chance to leave with their own copy of Frederick; which carter says is her favorite story time book.

"It tells the story of how each person has something unique to contribute and those special gifts really do contribute to a greater good for everyone," said Carter.

Carter's inauguration ceremony is to take place Friday morning, April 20th,  at 11 am in the Luhrs Performing Arts Center.
