UPDATE: Chambersburg Mayor Darren Brown submits letter of resignation

Borough Council President Allen Coffman is now Acting Mayor for the next 30 days

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - On Monday, the Chambersburg Borough Council formally approved Darren Brown's resignation.
 
Borough Council President Allen Coffman is now Acting Mayor for the next 30 days.
 
Then Walt Biestch, who won both the Republican and Democratic Mayoral Primary back in May, will be sworn in as the Interim Mayor at their next meeting on Sept. 25.

Chambersburg Mayor Darren Brown has submitted a letter of resignation to the town council.
 
Brown was elected mayor in November of 2013 and currently serves in the Pennsylvania National Air Guard.
 
In the letter to council, he informed them that he will transition into the United States Air Force, which he said is the reason for his resignation.
 
Brown said he wants his resignation to be effective Monday night at the council meeting.  
 
His term is slated to end on Dec. 31, so if his resignation is accepted, the Borough Council President will serve as the Acting Mayor until an interim one is appointed.
