UPDATE: Police arrest suspect in Hagerstown Sheetz robbery

David Brian Smith faces robbery, theft and assault charges

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Detectives from the Hagerstown Police Department have arrested the suspect in the robbery of the Sheetz in the 100-block of Eastern Boulevard on Saturday, March 18.
David Brian Smith was arrested and charged with robbery, theft of less than $1,000 and second degree assault.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Central Processing Center for booking and processing.
Hagerstown Police are searching for the person responsible for a robbery at a Sheetz over the weekend.
Officials responded to the Sheetz in the 100-block of Eastern Boulevard on Saturday just before 2 a.m. When officers got there, the suspect had already left the area with an undisclosed amount of money.
Officers learned that a thin, white man, who was about 5 feet, ten inches tall, passed a note to the cashier demanding money. The man is also described as possibly being in his 30's or 40's, with a salt and pepper-colored beard, wearing blue jeans, a black and white-striped jacket and a red hat with a green piece of cloth covering the hat.
"Sheetz is very busy. There are officers constantly doing checks at the Sheetz and other Sheetz. So, this guy was pretty brazen to go in at this time and take a chance of an officer not being there," said Detective Sgt. Andrew Lewis.
Anyone with information into the robbery or its suspect should call the Hagerstown Police Department at (301) 790-3700.
