WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. -
Walmart officials recently announced that the new Supercenter off Sharpsburg Pike is expected to open some time between this August and September.
Construction on the site has been ongoing for the last 14 months, and Walmart officials said the new store will create 300 jobs in the county.
The building is 155,000 square feet, spread across 55 acres of former farmland.
Walmart officials said although this is the only new store they are building in Maryland this year, they plan on remodeling eight other stores and Sam’s Clubs in the state by the end of 2017.
The site plans are moving forward to construct a convenience store and fast food restaurant on Sharpsburg Pike.
The construction of the convenience store and restaurant will depend on the current construction of the new Walmart.
With the Walmart will come a few improvements to Maryland Route-65. One of the changes will be adding Arnett Drive.
The more than 4,000 square foot store and 2,000 square foot restaurant are set to be north and south of Arnett Drive.
Washington County officials said the Walmart is set to be completed in 2017.
