BETHESDA, Md. - Less than two months after his Germantown clinic closed, Dr. LeRoy Carhart has opened a new abortion clinic in Bethesda.
He was previously a doctor at Germantown Reproductive Services which closed in August.
Dr. Carhart has been controversial for some, because officials said he is one of the few doctors in the country who performs late-term abortions.
Pro-life groups plan to continue to convene outside of Dr. Carhart's office.
"With the closure of the previous clinic that he was working at, he was determined to be able to keep access open for women in this region," said Chelsea Souder, spokeswoman for Dr. Carhart.
"He suggests that he's helping women, and he's actually devastating their lives, which means he's devastating their families," said Susan Abel, pro-life activist.
Pro-life groups are advocating for the passage of a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks.
