One suspect on loose after alleged robbery, shooting

One man shot as two suspects make off with money from a local business

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Montgomery County Police Detectives are investigating an early morning assault on a Silver Spring family as they were coming home from work.

Police officers found a 51 year-old male suffering from a non-fatal gunshot wound on New Hampshire Avenue.

One of the two suspects was arrested Thursday and identified as 25 year-old Marlo Johnson. He now faces robbery and assault charges, while the other suspect remains at large.

Detectives believe the family, which owns a nearby business, was targeted by the two African American male suspects who confronted them with handguns outside of their home.

There was a brief struggle before the shooting after which the suspects fled in a black Nissan Sentra with several purses.

Store owners are encouraged to be extra careful when traveling with business proceeds.

"If you are a business owner, and you need to make a bank drop, you can call your local police department and ask for an escort,” said Montgomery County Police Department, Spokesperson, Rick Goodale. "The officers will be more than happy to come out and make sure that you are safe in doing that."
