UPDATE: Suspect arrested for firing gunshots at Gaithersburg church

Peter Banfield was charged with reckless endangerment, destruction of property

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Police in Montgomery County have arrested the man that they said is responsible for firing a gun at a church in Gaithersburg.

Police have charged Peter Kevin Banfield with reckless endangerment and destruction of property for firing at the church and causing damage to it on two occasions.

On Nov. 15, a parishioner at the New Life Seventh Day Adventist Church called police about a bullet hole near the front entrance.

Police responded the next day after more shots were reported. Officers recovered bullet fragments at the scene. 

Investigators received a tip which led to the identification of Banfield as the suspect.

While searching Banfield's home, investigators found a gun and ammo.
