Study says Montgomery College helps students out of poverty

The community college helps students find local jobs

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. - Montgomery College is helping students break the cycle of poverty, according to a national study.

It names the institution sixth in the country for helping move students from poverty to a higher economic status.

College officials said they have programs in place to help students get good-paying jobs once they graduate, and more than 75 percent of Montgomery College graduates stay local.

"Anyone can come in, and based on your scores, we'll put you on the right path to succeed," said Dr. Sanjay Rai, Montgomery College.

Seventy percent of Montgomery College students apply for financial aid.
