Silver Spring residents discuss immigration, neighborhood safety

Montgomery County Police commander Marcus Jones presents extended crime report

SILVER SPRING, Md. - The Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board and officials from Montgomery County Police 3rd District held a community dialogue on neighborhood safety and issues with immigration.

The focus was on an extended crime report, in Silver Spring, by Montgomery County Police commander Jones. There were also discussions on issues with DACA, immigrant temporary status, and how to ensue the local immigrant community gets the help they need. Officials say this gives residents a broader understanding on how the city is doing regarding safety and security.

"[We want to know] what are their issues and concerns and how to increase the connection between the public sector government, county government, and the immigrant community" said Reemberto Rodriguez, Silver Spring Regional Director.

The director says the next community conversation will be held in March.
