Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Bethesda

Witnesses saw a Mitsubishi passenger car go off of I-495

BETHESDA, Md. - A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car Tuesday night in Bethesda.

According to Maryland State Police, the crash happened around 9:40 p.m. on Interstate-495 northbound at the northbound Interstate-270 spur.

According to reports, witnesses saw a Mitsubishi passenger car go off the roadway.

Another vehicle pulled over to the shoulder to check on the occupants of the Mitsubishi, and when the driver ran into the roadway to retrieve something, he was then hit by an Audi.

The pedestrian, Edward Long, 53, of Montgomery County, and the driver of the Audi, Andrew Robbins, 63, of North Potomac, were taken to Suburban Hospital for treatment.

Long succumbed to his injuries and died.

The investigation remains ongoing.
