FREDERICK, Md. - Frederick Community College is celebrating a huge milestone this weekend.
And thousands of students, teachers, and alumni came out to attend the 60th anniversary celebration. Including Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner who offered a proclamation to officially recognize their anniversary. And the college president Elizabeth Burmaster spoke about how the college has grown in the past 60 years. She says Frederick Community College is the only public higher education institution in Frederick County and they have served over 210,000 students.
"It began in 1957 with 77 students and 4 programs taking evening classes at Frederick High School and here we are 60 years later with almost 16,000 students," said Elizabeth Burmaster, President of Frederick Community College.
FCC now has over 85 degree and certificate programs.
