MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. - Officials at Amazon have announced they're on the hunt for a place to build its second headquarters, and it's raising the question of whether it could it be built in Montgomery County.
Montgomery County leaders quickly jumped at the chance to be considered to house the new $5 billion facility.
Amazon said they would hire 50,000 new employees.
The area could be attractive for Amazon's CEO, who owns the Washington Post and just purchased the largest home in Washington, D.C. for $23 million.
"Montgomery County will be one of those entities that is saying, 'Why not here?' We have transit. We have an urban vibe. We have culture," said Montgomery County Council President, Roger Berliner.
Other municipalities vying for Amazon's business include Toronto, Pittsburgh and Atlanta.
