IJAMSVILLE, Md. - We are on week four of the high school season in Maryland, and we are starting to get an idea of which teams are the cream of the crop.
One of those teams that has stood out from the rest is the Oakdale High School Bears.
They are definitely one of the premiere teams not only in Frederick County, Md. but in the entire State of Maryland, and what's most impressive about that is that this school has only been around since 2010.
In just seven years, they've become a local heavyweight, and Friday, they have a rival in their house.
The Urbana High School Hawks are ready to square-off.
The two schools are only six miles apart, so there is always a lot of bragging rights on the line when they get together.
The fans come out in bunches, and Oakdale players and coaches don't take the support of their fans for granted.
"We know they appreciate it. The game day atmosphere, as you said, here is awesome. Our students come out in force. They are loud. They fill up the stands. Our community fills up the stands. It's pretty special," said Kurt Stein, Head Coach, Oakdale High School Bears.
"We've always had one of the best student sections in the state since we've started as a school. It's really nice to know that your whole school supports you, and they want to root for you every Friday," said George Stultz, senior, Running Back/Safety, Oakdale High School Bears.
"It's pretty awesome. It is an amazing place to be on Friday nights. We are just thankful that the kids and community supports us like that," said Coach Stein.
