Elina Shirazi joined the Nova News team in April 2017 after working at the national Fox News in Washington D.C. Elina produced for the show Special Report with Bret Baier, and worked for Fox Business. She interned there for three semesters during college working on different shows.
Elina graduated from American University with the National Student Journalist's award from NPR. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at her school-focusing on domestic violence as their philanthropy. She majored in Broadcast Journalism and minored in business. During her time there, she created a website where any student could contribute multi-media content. Her contributions to other well known publications include Elite Daily and the Washington Post.
Elina is excited to be covering Northern Virginia, since she was raised in the area!
Elina considers herself to be an old soul who loves new technology. She is an impassionate believer that being a great reporter, first and foremost, means being human. Her ambition to become a reporter first started when she was given her first camera when she was young. Being an only child, she says that was her first friend; she was never seen without it at family events, narrating everything around her.
When Elina is not reporting, she enjoys spending time with the people she loves, meeting new ones, dancing, watching historical period dramas, and scouring the internet for new information.
Elina is an American-Iranian who is interested in the mystery that is the Middle East. She speaks fluent Farsi, and likes to read about international countries and their dynamics to keep up.
Elina sees local news as the perfect opportunity to showcase people who lead and inspire- and to shed light on the events that impact communities.
